Past Scholarship Award
Recipient: Izabella Kovarzina Izabella
Kovarzina came to Albuquerque five years ago from
Latvia, a country on the coast of the Baltic Sea.
Before entering the U.S. in 1999, she studied at a
medical college in Riga, Latvia. After she
received a nursing degree with honors, she went to work
in a local hospital at night and studied at the Riga's
Humanitarian Institute.
She has attended the University of New Mexico since the spring of the 2000 semester, and graduated magna cum laude in December 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. In
December of 2004, she received a Masters with
distinction in LLSS and has applied to the Ph.D. program
in Education (LLSS). In her Ph.D. program she
intends to develop effective methods to close the
academic achievement gap of minority and international
students who strive diligently for their academic
success. With future research and her own academic
experiences she would like to explore new methods of
teaching students with diverse background.
Izabella has a cumulative grade point average of 3.99.
Please join with me in congratulating Izabella with achieving scholastic success and for being chosen for the Executive Women International Graduate Women Scholarship. It is our hope that Izabella could attend an upcoming EWI meeting and meet the EWI membership.
